Howdy Earthlings! I'm Deanna Rose-IT professional, hobby astronomer, amateur radio operator, weather enthusiast, and Star Trek fangirl. I'm also the creator of Texas Dark Skies.
Just north of Austin, Texas, I live and observe the night sky from outside of Liberty Hill. I also take my telescopes on vacation all over Texas to capture the skies across the state.
My goal is to explore and preserve the night skies in Texas through advocacy for both astronomy and light pollution prevention, and by sharing everything I see through my telescope with the internet.
Less of an observatory, more just setting my telescopes up in the front yard.
My current equipment includes a Celestron SLT 130 Newtonian telescope, a Celestron SLT 90mm Maksutov-Cassegrain telescope, a Celestron 50mm EclipSmart telescope, and a ZWO SeeStar S50 smart telescope, as well as more computers, laptops, and handheld devices than a single person should own. (What do you expect from an IT professional?)
Living on a decent-sized lot of land in Williamson County, I am making plans to build a permanent observatory where I can set up my telescopes and equipment. This is a long-term project that will take a lot of planning, money, time, and work. I don't expect this to be completed this year; 2025 doesn't look good for it, either.
I would like to add a large Dobsonian telescope with a focal ratio of f/3 or better to my collection for deep sky viewing. I'd also like to get a Vaonis Vespera Pro, which I've decided will be my reward once I hit 500 subscribers on the Texas Dark Skies YouTube channel.
